The nominees for football's most prestigious global award have been unveiled, and the women's list brings some surprises. Traditionally, the Ballon d'Or tend to recognise the same, familiar names - undeniably world-class players in their own right - but the selection often feels limited in scope. This year is different.
One standout addition is a player who has made nearly 140 appearances for Roma, leading the club to its first Scudetto in 2023 and a second consecutive title in 2024. As Roma’s captain and midfield maestro, the heart and soul of the side, Manuela Giugliano has officially earned her seat at the table among the world’s elite footballers.
