Italian biotech companies are growing in size and number. They are usually young, dynamic, small or even micro enterprises with a strong core made of innovation, research, scientific and technological excellence.
According to the 2016 report published by Assobiotec (the national association of biotech companies) in collaboration with Enea (the national agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development), in 2015 this sector had revenues for €9.4 billion - 25% of which were destined to R&D. It had 9,000 workers and an increasing number of satellite activities. In the same year, exports rose to €694 million for companies dealing with "pure" biotech R&D.
