Why is it no matter where the genetic tree traces our ancestry to, we love Italian food and wine so much? I believe it is because the two evolved together, and the enjoyment of one complements the taste of the other.
My enjoyment of these Italian offerings began when I was in the Navy, on board a tanker that ported in Naples, Italy. I befriended a shipmate of Italian-American heritage, Joe Piti, who had family in Rome. That friendship led to the best experiences I had while a sailor. As his shipmate, I was invited by Joe's family to spend Christmas with them and enjoy a holiday feast.
