Italy has great opportunities for growth in the tourist sector that still need to be exploited, in the south in particular. The level it starts from, however, as figures testify, is not as low as often believed.
Our country ranks second in Europe (within the EU-28) in nights spent by international tourists: with its 186.8 million, it's behind Spain, which counts 259.6 million, and way ahead of France (130.9 million) and the United Kingdom (105.5 million).
