Italy Sees 8% Increase In Cheese Exports To Non-EU Countries

Italy has been named as the top cheese exporter to the USA, Canada and Switzerland during the first half of 2017, according to Italian news agency ANSA. The data was reported by dairy association Assolatte, which highlighted that 421,000 tonnes of Italian dairy products have been exported to non-EU countries in 2017, representing an increase of 8% compared to the same period of last year.

In the USA, Italian cheese exports reached 17,800 tonnes in the first half of 2017, a result that confirms Italy's position as the leading supplier in the country, ahead of France (10,300 tonnes) and the Netherlands (7,100 tonnes). Today, 27% of cheese entering the USA hails from Italy. Likewise, Italy has also been named top cheese exporter to Canada, with an amount of 2,400 tonnes this year, as well as in Switzerland, with 10,200 tonnes, in front of  Germany (8,800 tonnes) and France (6,700 tonnes).
