Triumph. Luna Rossa's team composed of Marco Gradoni and Gianluigi Ugolini as helmsmen and Federico Colaninno and Rocco Alekos Falcone as trimmers won the Youth America's Cup for the first time, beating American Magic in the final. The American boat finished 36 seconds behind. Luna Rossa thus took home the first edition of the trophy reserved for Under 25s.
The Italian boat made the most of the penalty imposed at the start on American Magic, which entered the race course before the limit. At that point Luna Rossa was able to cover the best trajectories, forcing the opponents to force and make mistakes. Arriving with a 32'' lead at the second gate, the Italians managed the gap as best they could, closing with 36'' on the Americans.
After winning the Youth America's Cup, the Italian team was honored on Thursday evening, September 26. All of Luna Rossa was present in the audience to celebrate this great success. An achievement that was the result of a two-year journey that led Italy to win an America's Cup for the first time.
