Napoli, Palermo and Catania are the favorite Easter tourism destinations for Italians this year

The South dominates the podium of Italians' favorite destinations ahead of the Easter vacations. These are the data provided by Jetcost, a search engine for airfares, hotels and car rentals. Once again this year, the study shows, our compatriots will favor Italy, with as many as 14 Italian destinations among the 25 most searched for ahead of the holiday weekend.

And the top ones are three southern queens. The top ten Italian destinations are this: Napoli (Campania), Palermo (Sicily), Catania (Sicily), Rome (Lazio), Milan (Lombardy), Turin (Piedmont, Venice (Veneto), Bari (Puglia), Cagliari (Sardinia), Lamezia Terme (Calabria).

Taking into consideration only the top ten Italian destinations, it is striking to see Venice surpassed by Turin, which probably offers more competitive prices and less mass tourism. If Cagliari's presence in the top ten is quite expected, given Sardinia's popularity as a tourist destination, Bari and Lamezia Terme enjoy many searches also because of airports where many low-cost carriers fly, as does Brindisi, Italy's twelfth most searched destination and twenty-third overall, preceded by Bologna and followed by Verona with its ever-present Shakespearean suggestions.

Florence's low ranking is surprising, last in both the Italian top 14 and the overall top 25, despite its abundance of rail connections. However, the explanation seems quite simple: as in the case of Venice, Italians do not flock to the most famous art cities during the holidays to avoid the large flows of foreign tourists and their obvious impact on accommodation prices, where the South is able to offer competitive alternatives even in the high season.
