Youth, Paolo Sorrentino's first feature length endeavour since his crowning glory and Oscar winning masterpiece The Great Beauty, is a touching reflection on creativity, the passing of time and those eternal subjects like the friendship which unites a director (Harvey Keitel) and a composer (Michael Caine), the difficult relationship between father and daughter, the love for art, and for a muse (actress or soprano respectively).
The film's themes and stunning performances of the actors involved seemed to ring true with the audience, but especially the jury of the 2015 European Film Awards where Sorrentino's film took home the prize for best picture, best director and Michael Caine for best actor, exactly the same prized he won at the same festival in 2013 for The Great Beauty.
