Pompeii overcomes 3-million visitors mark, Culture minister says

Italian minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism Dario Franceschini wrote on his Twitter account that more than three million people visited the Pompeii archaeological site in 2016, expressing optimism for the rest of the year. "For the first time in history, Pompeii overcomes the three million visitors threshold. And today is just November 8th", Franceschini wrote.

Speaking from Piacenza, prime minister Matteo Renzi also expressed his satisfaction. "Pompeii overcame the thershold of three million visitors today. It is just November 8th. It used to be in the headlines only because of collapses, but the most recent news is the sign that something is moving", Renzi said.
