Glitz meets the montane in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the sublime ski destination in the Dolomites. Though the exceptionally jagged limestone mountain range in northeast Italy is part of the Italian Alps, in several ways, it feels a world away. Influences from Austria, its northern neighbor, abound in the cuisine, landscapes, architecture, and culture.
Cortina will soon host the 2021 Alpine Ski World Championship (Feb. 8 -21), and why not mark the occasion with pizza? Located at the base of the Socrepes ski lifts, Chalet Tofane serves the Cortina 2021 pizza topped with Ampezzo-style potatoes (seasoned with onions and speck). The historic chalet’s new owners went all out for the après-ski, or the aperitivo time after the lifts have closed, complete with a DJ set, Champagne, and oysters.
