Contrary to what some believe, considering them a relic of the past, Italian dialects are more alive than ever today, especially online. According to the latest available Istat data, over 45% of Italians still speak a dialect at home or with friends, and younger generations are increasingly mixing Italian with local words, often without even realizing it.
But the real surprise is that dialects are taking over social media, transforming into memes, jokes, and even songs. While they were once relegated to grandparents or local festivals, today they are thriving on Instagram and TikTok, with content often surpassing a million views.
