Rome's archaeological circuit - comprised of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palantine Hill - is a destination for millions of tourists from around the world. In 2014, over 6 million visitors spent more than €41 million on tickets alone.
But the Ministry of Culture doesn't have the final word on what happens there. A part of these riches are controlled by the city of Rome, most prominently the Campidoglio, named for the hill where the mayor has his office.
