In Rome , worksite operations began the day before yesterday to launch a major extraordinary maintenance operation at the Trevi Fountain, overseen by the Capitoline Superintendency and promoted by the Cultural Department of Roma Capitale.
The intervention, in the lower part of the fountain, is necessary because of the degradation that is affecting the famous monument, located in an area of high pedestrian traffic and subject to particular microclimatic conditions. These factors favor the formation of biological patina, weed vegetation and limestone deposits, especially in areas exposed to continuous contact with water.
