Six Reasons To Fall In Love With Vermentino

By: Michelle Williams

“I have always found the Vermentino wines from Sardinia very compelling,” explains Craig Camp, general manager of Troon Vineyard, Applegate Valley, Oregon. Rumored of Spanish origin, this white grape is typically associated with the Italian island of Sardinia, the Tuscan coast (Bolgheri), and the Ligurian coast. Additionally, in the Mediterranean, Vermentino is prominent on the island of Corsica, and in the South of France, where it is known as Rolle.

Traveling across the Atlantic, this white grape has also found a home in the United States. Areas with Mediterranean style climates such as Texas High Plains and Hill Country, northern and central California, southern Oregon, and parts of Virginia provide suitable growing conditions for high quality Vermentino.
