They are young, strong and determined to win. The 307 "Azzurri" looking for glory at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are a mirror of Italian society, 144 women (never before so many) and 163 young men. Their average age is 27, and twenty of them were not born in Italy because Italy is ever more a melting pot of languages and cultures uniting under a single dream: conquering the most precious metal and make the nation proud.
The delegation now in Rio is bigger than the Italian squad in London (291), a sign that even with scarce funds, Italian sport knows how to find talent and bring it to the top. And that the "Made in Italy" Olympic movement knows how to elevate many young people. The medals themselves are a matter of centimeters, of moments, of a gust of wind blowing in one direction rather than in the other one.
