Historic gold for Italy in the women's team pursuit at the ongoing track cycling World Championships in Saint Quentin en Yvelines, France. The Italian quartet beat Great Britain in the final. Protagonists of the feat were Chiara Consonni, Vittoria Guazzini, Elisa Balsamo and Martina Fidanza, who just 24 hours earlier had won gold in the scratch. The Italian quartet, rainbow silver medalists a year ago, finished 1"609 ahead of their opponents.
Italy then took the silver medal in the men's team pursuit. The quartet led by fresh hour record-holder Filippo Ganna and also composed of Simone Consonni, Jonathan Milan and Manlio Moro was beaten in the final by two-tenths by Great Britain, which finished in 3'45"729. Another medal for a splendid Rachele Barbieri: the 25-year-old from Pavullo nel Frignano (Modena, Emilia Romagna) finished second in the elimination final (behind Belgium's Lotte Kopecky) and won silver.
