The submerged village of Curon has laid dormant for more than 70 years, with only its 14th century church steeple poking through the water’s surface to remind passers-by of its existence. But now, the water has receded to reveal the once-lively village located near the Italian-Switzerland border in the north.
Curon was home to hundreds of people before it was flooded for a hydroelectric plant and the merger of two nearby lakes in 1950, according to BBC News. The plant resulted in the creation of Lake Resia.
