The Azzurre defeated Serbia 3-2 in a heart-stopping match full of upsets. Coach Marco Mencarelli's girls lost the first set, and in the second set they came back from 20-10 down and managed to win only in the advantages. Dominance in the third set gave hope, but the Balkans won the fourth set and everything was decided at the tie-break. Down 7-10 and 11-13, Italy came up with magic and won the gold medal on advantages.
Our national team climbs to the top step of the podium in this category continental review for the eighth time in history after the victories of 1996, 1998, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2018. This is yet another achievement by the youth formations in this busy summer. The hope, as always, is that some elements will then emerge at the higher levels and make their way up.
