First day and first victory for Italy in the Paralympic World Cup trials in Busan, South Korea, on a super Saturday from as many as four Italian medals. Taking the top step of the podium was again Bebe Vio, who won the women's foil B event and won her fourth success in as many stages of the world circuit (after Pisa, Nimes and Warsaw) since returning after injury.
Two of today's silvers were signed by Andreea Ionela Mogos in women's foil A and Edoardo Giordan in men's saber A, while Matteo Dei Rossi's performance in men's saber A was bronze. Bebe Vio wins more crucial points to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Hers began from the group stage brilliantly overcome with five victories in as many matches played and suffering only one hit.
In the first direct round the all-Italian derby against Alessia Biagini won by Bebe with a score of 15-9. In the quarterfinals, the Italian foilist then overcame Georgian Irma Khetsuriani with a clear 15-5 to reach the certainty of a medal. In the semifinals all went smoothly for Vio, who beat Japan's Anri Sakurai 15-2 giving herself the match for gold. Victory then came over Thailand's Jana, No. 1 in the world rankings, 15-1.
