A restored 17th-century monastery that now serves as a villa with multiple apartments and commercial vineyards in the Piedmont region of Italy is heading to auction later this month.
In addition to its history as a Catholic monastery, the estate in the province of Asti—known as Azienda Agricola Montefiorito—has also served as a restaurant and hotel. Among its previous owners is the family of Nobel Prize winner Rita Levi-Montalcini, a neurobiologist, according to Ilaria Demartini of Italy Sotheby’s International Realty, who listed the property in April for €3.95 million (approximately US$4.26 million).
