Alba–Canelli cycling route: a 33-kilometer project through Piedmont's Unesco wine country

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

A major new cycling route is set to transform mobility and tourism in Italy’s renowned wine country, linking the towns of Alba and Canelli through rolling hills recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. The project, officially presented in December 2025, aims to combine sustainable transportation, environmental protection, and economic development in one of Piedmont’s most iconic areas.

The planned cycling corridor will extend for approximately 33 kilometers, crossing vineyard-covered hills between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. The route will connect the Tanaro River area in Alba with the Belbo River park in Canelli, passing through rural landscapes shaped over centuries by wine production. The path is designed to integrate with existing roads, rail lines, and local paths, creating a continuous and accessible network for cyclists.
