Alta Langa DOCG sparkling wines showcases in New York

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

On March 10, the Consorzio Alta Langa DOCG will bring its flagship sparkling wines to New York City for a high-profile industry presentation, marking a strategic step in expanding its presence in the U.S. market. The event will be designed exclusively for trade professionals and will take place at Eataly Downtown, where importers, sommeliers, distributors, and wine journalists are expected to attend.

More than 25 wineries from Piedmont will participate, pouring dozens of labels produced under the Alta Langa DOCG designation. These wines will be made exclusively in the hills of southern Piedmont at elevations ranging from approximately 250–700 meters above sea level. By regulation, Alta Langa DOCG sparkling wines must be produced using 100% Pinot Nero and/or Chardonnay and will undergo a minimum of 30 months of bottle aging on the lees – a requirement that exceeds many other traditional method standards. Riserva versions will be aged even longer.

The New York program will include a walk-around tasting along with two technical seminars exploring the denomination’s history, soil composition, and production methods. Established as a DOC in 2002 and elevated to DOCG status in 2011, Alta Langa will continue to represent one of Italy’s most rigorous sparkling wine appellations. Production has increased steadily over the past decade, and further growth is projected as international demand continues to rise.

The U.S. will remain one of the most important export markets for Italian wine, accounting for roughly 25% of Italy’s total wine exports by value. By organizing a unified group presentation in New York, the consortium will aim to strengthen distribution networks and build brand recognition among American buyers.

Consortium leaders will emphasize that the initiative will not only focus on commercial expansion but will also highlight the denomination’s identity – shaped by high-altitude vineyards, limestone-rich soils, and extended aging. With this debut, Alta Langa will seek to position itself firmly within the premium sparkling wine segment in the United States.
