Massachusetts will officially launch its 2026 Italian Heritage Month celebrations on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the House Chamber of the Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon Street, Boston.
The annual event is part of a statewide tradition honoring Italian culture and the contributions of Italians and Italian Americans to Massachusetts and the United States.
The celebration is organized by the October Italian Heritage Month Committee of Massachusetts in partnership with the Consulate General of Italy in Boston. The committee traces its origins to 1999, when Massachusetts enacted legislation officially recognizing October as Italian American Heritage Month and requiring the governor to issue an annual proclamation.
The initiative is strongly connected to contemporary Italy as well as Italian American history. Its 2026 theme emphasizes “Celebrating Italian Creativity,” with activities designed to promote Italian heritage, culture and language while strengthening connections between Italy and New England. Education, scientific cooperation, innovation and business are central components. Programs include Italian Creativity Labs for middle and high school students and Science, Technology, and Business Days connecting Italian and New England institutions.
The broader program builds toward October through several initiatives and continues with cultural and community events during Italian Heritage Month. The committee’s mission is not simply commemorative: it seeks to preserve Italian identity, increase awareness of Italian and Italian American achievements, encourage younger generations to engage with their heritage and reinforce present-day relations with Italy.
The organization also raises funds to support the October kickoff, the Columbus Day Breakfast, educational initiatives, charities and wider promotion of Italian heritage throughout Massachusetts. Individual tickets available through its official website cost $150, with online purchases available for up to six tickets at a time.
