This Saturday marks the start of Italian American Heritage & Culture Month, and where better to celebrate than one of the oldest Italian neighborhoods in NYC? Throughout the month of October, Bronx Little Italy invites New Yorkers and visitors to immersive themselves in Italian American culture by enjoying all that the vibrant neighborhood has to offer, from musical performances to artisanal food shops, retail merchants, delicious eateries, and so much more.
On Saturday, October 4, 18, and 25, catch the sweet sounds of doo-wop from Arthur Avenue’s own The Belmont 4. The talented acapella quarter will be serenading visitors with nostalgic tunes from the 50s and 60s as they stroll through the streets and pop into local businesses from 6:30-8:30pm.
The musical performances continue with Bronx Little Italy’s annual Italian American Heritage Month Celebration on Monday, October 13. In conjunction with Columbus Day, from 12:30-3:30pm, the band Pane e Cioccolato will once again fill the cross section at East 186th Street and Arthur Avenue with traditional Italian music that will transport visitors to the Mediterranean coast as they browse the shops or enjoy lunch in the neighborhood.
Round out the month by enjoying a delicious bowl of pasta on World Pasta Day, (Saturday, October 25)! In the Bronx’s Little Italy, there is no shortage of this Italian culinary staple. Savor a delicious pasta dish at one of the many restaurants and eateries along Arthur Avenue, or complement your own cooking with fresh pasta from specialty food stores like Borgatti’s Ravioli & Egg Noodles or Enzo’s of Arthur Avenue on the Go. The full list of merchants can be found here.
For over a century, the Belmont neighborhood has been a place of flourishing Italian American culture, starting in the late 19th Century when the area welcomed an influx of Italian immigrants. Today, the neighborhood continues to preserve its authentic old-world charm while also serving as a welcoming community to people and businesses of other nationalities and cultures.
