Italy's artistocratic families are getting increasingly involved in promoting tourism at Italy's historic castles and villages, helping to save enchanting places that were at risk of being abandoned. The revival of these structures and their surroundings preserves the areas for future generations, creating an upscale, sustainable tourism.
One example is the Castle of Tabiano, just restructured and opened to the public. Others are the Rocca Meli Lupi of Soragna near Parma, the Scipione Castle of the Marchesi Pallavicino di Salsomaggiore, and the Rocchetta Mattei di Grizzana Morandi, an hour from Bologna, acquired by the Foundation of the Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna bank, which brought it back to life.
