Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, the famous Italian Baroque painter, was a consummate artist, highly creative, original and revolutionary; he developed the technique of chiaroscuro, where sharp contrasts of intense light and dark evoke a dramatic impact; and this technique influenced European Baroque art for decades.
