Cincinnati church cancels 115-year-old Italian American tradition

By: Bebe Hodges

An Italian American tradition that started 115 years ago in Cincinnati is canceled this October. Sacred Heart Church's beloved Ravioli Dinner, which serves as a fundraiser for the Camp Washington church, will not happen this fall, the Sacred Heart Ravioli Dinner Committee announced in a Facebook post.

Since 1911, the event has brought together Italian and German volunteers who lovingly make meatballs and ravioli, and families and friends who sit at rows of long tables to enjoy the homemade supper. Today, about a hundred volunteers make upwards of 250,000 ravioli for 3,000 sit-down dinners, event co-chair Ron Panioto told The Enquirer.
