October 16, the Township of Ocean School District paid honor to a beloved coach who is credited with giving the Spartans of Ocean the identity of the Big Red. Superintendent Kelly Weldon and Athletic Director Rusty Todd hosted a ceremony with over 100 people in attendance for George “The Rock” Conti.
“Coach Conti not only changed the culture of a football team, he changed the culture of a community,” said Todd. Conti was a coach in Asbury Park for the Blue Bishops when he was asked to take over the football program at Ocean Township High School. He spent 24 years in Ocean as a coach, teacher, athletic director and assistant principal.
