Local bands, color guards and drum majors will duke it out for the 57th time during the annual Columbus Day Tournament of Bands Parade and Italian Festival on Monday. "We put on the parade because it's tradition," said Ron Sall, president of the Downtown Binghamton Business Association. "It's about the kids."
Sall said about eight or nine high schools will perform Monday. The competition is sanctioned by the New York Federation of Contest Judges for Marching Bands. The competition is separated into three classes, and winners will be awarded trophies and cash prizes. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on the corner of Arthur and Main streets in downtown Binghamton, traveling down Court Street and finishing on State Street.
