Italian American organizations in Wilmington want the statue of Christopher Columbus back in Delaware's largest city. A community meeting is planned for Feb. 17.
There, Wilmington organizations, including the Christopher Columbus Monument Committee, St. Anthony’s Lodge 3012 of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, and the Societa daVinci, will present information and solicit feedback on bringing back the statue publicly − maybe in Father Tucker Park, if these groups get their way. The park is in Wilmington's Little Italy neighborhood, where some of the St. Anthony's Italian Festival takes place annually.
