The first inter­na­tional pop­u­lar music to emerge in the mod­ern era is the Can­zone Napo­le­tana. The suc­cess of Neapoli­tan song reached beyond the bor­ders of Naples and Italy, cred­ited to the waves of Ital­ian emi­grants who com­posed, per­formed, and sold it in NYC.
