Families gather for St. Rocco’s Italian Festival in Holley

By: MALLORY DIEFENBACH

A small crowd gathers at the bocce ball area, watching teams throw the balls down the dirt field. Nearby, an announcer calls forward teams as games are won and lost. Underneath some tents, people exchange tickets for some homemade Italian food as families gather for the annual St. Rocco’s Italian Festival.

“We have bocce ball players coming in from Buffalo, Rochester and Canada,” said Bill Campbell, chairman for the festival. St. Rocco’s Italian Festival is a fundraiser for St. Mary’s Church in Holley. Homemade Italian foods, bocce ball tournaments, kids games, a beer tent and a bounce house make up the event. Campbell added the bounce house was popular not only among the children but the adults as well.
