The food industry, once again, has a crucial impact on Italy's trade balance. In the first eight months, the growth was 3.1% totalling €24.5 billion in exports. After the decline of 2.8% registered in July, agri-food exports grew in August by 12.3%.
"The figure," explains ISMEA, the Institute of the Ministry of Agricultural Policies, "reflects a year-on-year increase in the value of sales abroad of agricultural products (+6.5% on an annual basis), and an even more significant growth in the export of processed food products (+13.5%), the most substantial in the last two years."
