How an Italian “bubble car” from post-World War II rescued BMW

Since my retirement as an Italian professor, I have been teaching la bella lingua in three diverse modes, private tutoring, virtual and in the classroom at the Senior Center in Flemington, N.J . Recently, a student of mine and an avid car enthusiast told me about the little car that could. This is the story of the Isetta.

The Isetta was manufactured by Iso SpA in Bolzeneto near Milano. The owner Renzo Rivolta founded the company in 1938, originally as a manufacturer of electric heaters and refrigerators . After World War II he decided to switch his factory to the production of motor scooters for potential increased profits and commercial success.
