Staten Island pizza institution Joe and Pat’s went all out for its first Manhattan location, with a meticulously designed space unveiled this week. Unlike the original location, which has lived on Staten Island for nearly 60 years, the pizza here isn’t served on paper plates. Joe and Pat’s has upgraded its more traditional, casual pizzeria look for a sleeker neighborhood restaurant design with wood tables and a full bar.
Located at 168 First Ave., between 10th and 11th streets, the 50-seat restaurant brings the cult-favorite pizzas — defined by their snappy, thin crust and generous fresh mozzarella — to a larger audience. Co-owner Casey Pappalardo, who runs the new location with his father and two uncles, says that while the pizza is the same, the family was ready for change.
