Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is strengthening his ties with Italy through a new leadership role in the energy sector. On October 6, 2026, he was appointed non-executive chairman of Reveille Resources, a British company planning to explore uranium deposits in northern Italy.
For Pompeo, the appointment carries special personal significance. Proud of his Italian American heritage and family roots in Abruzzo, he has maintained a close relationship with his ancestral homeland. During an official visit in 2019, he traveled to Abruzzo, celebrating the region from which his family originated.
Reveille Resources is focusing on 2 historic uranium deposits in Lombardy – Novazza, near Valgoglio in Bergamo province, and Val Vedello, in Sondrio province. Both locations were previously investigated by companies belonging to Italy’s ENI group between 1959 and 1983, with more than 87,000 meters of drilling and approximately 17 kilometers of underground development.
The company, whose largest shareholder is Zenith Energy, led by Italian entrepreneur Andrea Cattaneo, aims to evaluate these resources using modern exploration technologies. The projects remain subject to regulatory and environmental approvals.
Pompeo’s initial appointment runs for 3 years. His responsibilities include developing relationships with Italian institutions, attracting American investors, and identifying international partnerships.
The former Secretary of State has emphasized Italy’s potential contribution to European energy security and expressed particular pride in participating in this initiative as an Italian American.
His new position represents another connection between his Italian heritage and professional career – while opening opportunities for cooperation between Italy and the United States in strategic energy resources.
