In this presentation Dr. Clò will discuss The Invisible Glass, a novel written by San Diego native Lawrence Madalena under the pseudonym of Loren Wahl that is set in Italy, at the end of WWII. As in his better-known local novel, Confetti for Gino, Madalena, weaves issues of race, gender, sexuality and nationality through the narrative. His channeling of many taboo themes through a popular genre like pulp fiction offers an unexpected archive, both alternative and transnational, where to look for controversial aspects seldom associated with Italians either in Italy or the US.
