Aperitivo is an Italian word coming from Latin: in the ancient Rome, people used to have a glass of mulsum, a drink made of wine and honey to serve with the gustatio, the starters. Tradition of drinking a little wine before lunch was in use at least until the Middle Age, but only in the 20th century it has become a real trend: enjoying a glass of wine and tasting it with peanuts and olives as snacks is still what Italians love most.
Over time aperitivo has referred to the relaxing moment between work and dinner, when people gather at bars, drinking Spritz or Negroni.
