Italian born, WWII centenarian is proud to be an American

By: Carol Ann Benanti

Born in Calabria, Italy on Dec. 16, 1917, Antonio LaRosa has earned the distinction of being the latest Staten Island resident to round the century mark and grace the elite roster of distinguished centenarians.

He immigrated to the U.S. in 1935 and settled in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, before making his home in Eltingville in 1981. Antonio served in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of the Tank Brigade in the 640th Division.
