Italian manufacturing continues to play an outsized role in the national economy – industry accounts for about 15 % of Italy’s GDP, and when related activities are included, its impact rises to well above one-third of total output. Manufacturing alone represents more than 60 % of the country’s industrial base, confirming its weight even in a period marked by global instability.
Recent data show a sector facing uneven conditions. In 2024, medium and large manufacturing firms posted a decline in sales of nearly 4 %, reflecting a cooling cycle after several challenging years driven by higher energy costs, weaker foreign demand and sharper competition from abroad.
