Did you know that Italy is joining the United States and other nations as appassionati of the sport of rugby? Indeed, the popularity of the sport has been on the rise in the bel paese recently as many Italians are tuning into the matches of the Italian National Team.
Introduced from Britain to Genova just after the Italian reunification, rugby has grown in Italy and now counts over 1,000 rugby clubs within the territory. These clubs represent over 70,000 registered male players, as well as over 8,000 registered female players. The sport is most popular in the north of Italy, with many teams coming from the Veneto and Lombardy.
