The spirit of Italy took flight in Rochester with the sparkling arrival of The Italian Fairy, Simona Rodano, in occasion of the Italian heritage culture month signature blend of music, culture, and education to the community. For two days, the city became a hub of Italian pride, discovery, and connection between universities, educators, and families.
The celebration began with an inspiring academic gathering that brought together representatives from three prestigious institutions, with Prof. Donatella Stocchi-Perucchio and Prof. Lucia Casiraghi from the University of Rochester, Prof. Joëlle Carota from Nazareth University, and Prof. Elisabetta D’Amanda from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), all of which proudly teach the Italian language, culture, literature, and cinema with strong programs.
The meeting was honored by the presence of Dr. Daniele Castellani, Director of the Educational Office of the Italian Consulate in New York, who emphasized the importance of joining forces among universities to strengthen and expand Italian language learning opportunities in the region.
Also present was Honorary Consul Mr. Francesco Scollo, who encouraged open communication and collaboration, expressing his heartfelt wish to also see middle and high schools inspired by Italy’s culture and language.
Simona Rodano participated in the meeting as the founder and president of the Global EduLanguage Foundation, a newly established managing entity that promotes Italian language and culture under the guidance of the Italian Consulate in New York.
The following day, the festivities continued at the Festa Italiana at the Mercato, a colorful celebration filled with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Italy. Local vendors showcased authentic products, while the main stage burst with vibrant performances. The Italian Fairy enchanted children, families, and community members with her signature energy and warmth, turning the day into a memorable moment of unity and joy.
