Italians in America – Our Immigrant Stories: The ‘Invincible’ spirit spans generations in the extended Papale family

In 1902, when Vinny Papale’s great-grandfather Vincenzo was just 10 years old, he and his family immigrated from a small commune near Caserta, Italy, to the Philadelphia suburbs in Delaware County, Pa.

Vincenzo started a pig farm (which we discovered both my father and uncle worked at seasonally as young men in the summers) – as well as a family – including son Francis, the father of Vince Papale, who would grow up to be an NFL legend who inspired the 2006 feature film “Invincible.”
