Italy has reached a new milestone in global trade, becoming the world’s fourth-largest exporter of goods after overtaking Japan. This position places Italy behind only China, the United States, and Germany, marking a significant shift in international trade rankings and confirming the strength of the Italian export model after years of steady growth.
In 2025, Italy’s merchandise exports showed strong momentum, particularly in the second and third quarters. In the third quarter alone, exports reached roughly $190 billion, slightly exceeding Japan’s total for the same period.
