The Italian delegation showcased its exceptional talent across multiple disciplines, securing 67 gold, 55 silver, and 44 bronze medals. Athletes also shattered expectations by setting six world records, two European records, and one national record.
The Virtus European Summer Games are a continental multi-sport competition dedicated to elite athletes with intellectual and relational disabilities. Gathering delegations from across Europe – and featuring sports like swimming, track and field, and cycling – the event provides a high-profile competitive stage. Beyond awarding medals, these games aim to highlight 100% of the athletes' technical excellence, demonstrating the continuous growth and strength of the paralympic movement.
Swimming proved to be the most successful sport for the team, generating roughly 53% of the total hardware. Swimmers collected 88 medals, including 28 golds. Highlights in the pool featured two European records – one by Eleonora Esposito in the 100-meter breaststroke and another by the men's 4x50 freestyle relay squad.
Track and field events yielded another massive wave of success, adding 38 medals to the tally. Italian runners and throwers established all six of the team's new world records. Standout performances included blazing times in the 400-meter and 1500-meter races, alongside a massive javelin throw by Luigi Casadei.
Indoor rowing contributed 27 medals, while table tennis secured 6 podium finishes. Furthermore, cycling made an impressive debut at the games, with Italian riders grabbing 4 medals, including a pair of golds. In tennis, the competition doubled as a global championship, allowing players like Emanuele Bezzi to claim a European title while simultaneously earning a World silver medal.
