Europe is accelerating its investment in supercomputing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, and Italy is becoming one of the continent’s most important hubs in that effort.
The shift is visible across the EuroHPC network, the European initiative created to give researchers, public institutions and companies access to computing capacity that was once concentrated mainly in the United States and Asia. Europe now has its first exascale-class machine, JUPITER in Germany, which reached 1 exaflop on the HPL benchmark and ranked No. 5 in the June 2026 TOP500 list.
