Luciano Ventrone's Kitchen Art

By: Jaclyn DeGiorgio

The invisible becomes visible in the paintings of Luciano Ventrone: the stringy core of freshly cut squash or the desiccated flesh of lemons squeezed of their juice. The artist’s works never fail to command attention, prompting admirers to stop and contemplate the image.

Born in Rome, where he lives and works today, in 1943, Ventrone is considered one of the most important contemporary painters – his works have been exhibited in prestigious venues across five continents. His subjects recall art icons of the past, though his attention to detail and Caravaggio-esque treatment of color and light place him among today’s most innovative artists.
