November 13th is the annual feast of St. Francesca Xaviera Cabrini, better known as Mother Cabrini. She is the first American citizen to be canonized a saint and the patron saint of immigrants. We here at The Global Penitent travelled to the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Denver, Colorado to celebrate her feast day.
In the early 1900s, Denver had a growing population of Italian immigrants, many of whom worked brutal jobs in mining, railroads, and construction. They lived in poverty, often isolated by language, and suffered poor health conditions.
