In 2025, Napoli received national recognition for its architectural heritage when it was named Best LibertyCity, an award that highlights excellence in the protection and promotion of Italy’s Art Nouveau legacy. The honor was granted by Italia Liberty, a cultural organization that for more than 10 years has focused on researching, mapping, and promoting Liberty-style architecture throughout the country.
The Liberty style developed in Italy between approximately 1895 and 1925, and Napoli is among the cities with the largest number of surviving examples. Specialists estimate that more than 200 buildings across the city show Liberty influences, from residential palazzi and villas to decorative staircases and façades.
