Pets are becoming full-fledged members of Italian families

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

In Italy, the relationship between people and their pets has evolved into something much deeper than simple companionship. Dogs, cats, and other domestic animals are increasingly considered genuine family members, bringing affection, emotional support, and a sense of connection to millions of households.

According to new findings released by the Eurispes Foundation ahead of World Animal Day on October 4, 2026, 33.7% of Italians share their homes with at least one pet. Specifically, 17.6% have one animal, 7.6% have two, and 8.5% care for three or more.
